Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools BUDGET 2011-12

Your Board of Education has had one budget workshop thus far to start the discussion on how to "spend" the money we have. How to prioritize? What is most important in this school system? The Operating Budget for 2010-11 is $1.15 BILLION. This is in addition to the Capital budget. Mecklenburg County has 175 public schools. 19,000 employees - about half are teachers. Go to http://www.cms.k12.nc.us/  for further information on how the budget is allocated. What changes do you feel we need to make to live within our means? How to best educate 135,000 students? I welcome your input. I feel we are still top heavy in administration. Your thoughts?

Why serve on the School Board?

Folks ask me why I would continue to serve on the CMS Board of Education for 7+ years? My response: I do it for the children and families in Mecklenburg County. These are folks who are working so hard to earn a living and raise their children with faith, and values, and morals. I have no idea what political party they are in, and I do not care. They care for their children and make sure they do homework and prepare for the next day. They are depending on those elected to serve on the School Board to make decisions for them. It reminds me of when my 4 children were going through K-12. I had no time to figure out the politics of the School Board. Now, I know how important it is to listen, study issues, do my homework and vote responsibly as an at-large member of the Mecklenburg County School Board. Yes, the children and families in Mecklenburg County are the ones who I work for.
